Happy 100th birthday to Jean Harlow! She was everything you could want in an actress. Harlow had style, wit and by all accounts she was a decent human being. What is not to love about the original blonde bombshell? It's unfortunate that she was taken away from us so soon. Harlow had so much potential, it would have been a blast to see her in more films. But as fate would have it, she is now immoralized as one of the stars of classic stars.
My one complaint is that Hollywood has really done a disservice to Harlow. Yes, you have the latest "stars" try to emulate her style but no one comes to celebrate the true beauty of Harlow... in her films. I have to admit I'm surprised when TCM finally decided to dedicate a month to her and then only because it's her 100th birthday. Trying to find a Harlow film on the channel has been a challenge in recent years. Everyone has seen Dinner At Eight for about a gazillion times but how about some lesser known titles?
And where's the box set that has been promised for years? It's a shame films like Bombshell and Red Dust are not on DVD. I know TCM has a box set out but it only includes the DVDs that have been on market for a couple years. Blow the dust off some golden goodies and release them to the general public already.
I definitely adore Harlow and hope that her memory will not fade. For someone who gave to Hollywood so much, it's a tragedy that today she's better known for the color of hair rather than her great films. Everyone knows Monroe but they forgot that Harlow was the one who paved the way. Godspeed to Our Baby!
